I used to have an app called Timehop on my phone. It would show me my social media activity from that day from previous years. I would see old tweets from Twitter, old pictures from Instagram, or other stuff from Facebook. Seeing my older content in Timehop became a regular part of my day. It was a source of some nostalgia and perhaps even some joy.

Then all of the big social media companies broke their APIs on purpose, leaving Timehop a withered husk of its former glory. Those APIs were the lifeblood of Timehop. Once the APIs were gone, then so was Timehop.

It dawned on me that that by building out my Media Diary in my Bluesky PDS, I had all of that data at the ready. I decided to build my own version of Timehop. Using my good friend Claude (AI), I was able to get another tab in my Media Diary dedicated to showing me old tweets, Instagram posts, and BlueSky posts on that same day from previous years. I even resuscitated my Twitter archive I created when quit a couple years ago. Now I can see plenty of old social media from that tab. Works great!
